A high-yielding, good quality variety with high resistance to bacterial wilt, resistance to races 1 and 3 of the Southern root knot nematode, and tolerance to brown spot. It has low resistance to black shank. RG 17 is fairly easy to cure with nearly 19 leaves on a medium height stalk. Leaves ripen at a moderate rate, and RG 17 has excellent holding ability.
